Janet Ramsay - Social Worker and Therapist
Janet, or Jan is a highly experienced Social Worker. She trained at The London School of Economics and qualified in 1976. She also has a certificate in Systemic Family Therapy from the Institute of Family Therapy and completed a two-year training course at the Tavistock Clinic, in Child Care Practice, Policy and Research. In recent years she has trained as an Attachment Therapist with both the Post Adoption Centre and Family Futures.
She has extensive social work experience with children and families, including court work. For the last twenty years, she has worked for the NHS in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Her particular interests are adoption, attachment difficulties, self-harm and parent and family work.
Most recently she has worked extensively with children and young people within the Looked After system providing individual therapy to address trauma and family difficulties as well as supporting foster carers and residential workers.
Janet uses a variety of therapeutic approaches in her direct work and is creative in developing the right package for each individual and family. She is qualified in administering Story Stem assessments and also uses Theraplay techniques in her work with adoptive families.
Janet worked for many years with overseas adopters and has overseen several placements from China and India during the course of this work.
She has also been part of a joint venture between Surrey County Council and the local CAMHS services to provide specialist therapeutic input to adopters facing challenges and difficulties. This work has often been intensive and long-term.
In addition to direct work, Janet is able to provide supervision, consultation and training to different professional groups. She has supervised many clinicians within the CAMHS setting and provided team leadership and management input as required. She has a special interest in working with staff groups in children’s homes and has been providing this service for many years.
Janet is registered with HCPC and a member or BASW. Whilst maintaining high professional standards, she is also warm, friendly and informal.
